Ever since The Dragon (1995), lost wax casting has been a Montegrappa signature—a technique used to sculpt overlays, finials and decorative componentry for many of our most celebrated Limited Editions.
Used in jewellery production for more than 4,000 years, lost wax casting demands high degrees of skill in sculpting and mould-making. Every intricate element is individually cast, then hand-finished.

Sculpted wax is encased in plaster or silica, which is pressurised, hardened and kiln-fired to melt away the wax (hence “lost” wax). Individual elements are then cast using the resulting moulds.
Low-relief engraving is another technique that plays a prominent role in our repertoire. Intricate and costly to perform, ornamentations appear three-dimensional despite their relatively shallow texture.

Generally applied to silver and gold, designs like Hemingway: The Adventurer (2020) showcase the dramatic variances in depth and intensity achievable with low-relief—or bas-relief—techniques.
Cloisonné brings rich, vibrant colours to precious metals. Hand enamelling demands high concentration and precise metalcraft. Even the slightest error or imperfection can have a profound impact on quality.

Precious and semi-precious gems are markers of permanence that accentuate luxury, harness energy or elaborate exclusive Atelier designs. Our expertise in gem-setting reflects decades of experience.
