Evgen Čopi Gorišek (b. 1994, Slovenia) is a self-taught artist whose practice emerged after encountering pop art exhibitions that shaped his visual language. Working with bold colors and simplified forms, he creates portraits where faces appear flat and childlike, contrasted by more detailed, three-dimensional bodies and environments. His figures share the same ambiguous smile, a deliberate motif that questions emotional authenticity and communication in contemporary society. Through sleek surfaces and pop-inspired aesthetics, his work reflects the polished yet distant nature of image culture in the social media age.

Par is a character who exists at the point of equilibrium, where expression settles into its most honest form. His simple, almost childlike lines reflect a state that is not perfect or flawed, but quietly true, like reaching par in golf, the natural balance one returns to. In this way, Par represents the minimum needed to create meaning, where every line stops trying and simply becomes.
This book traces Evgen Čopi Gorišek’s formative years from 2019 to 2023, a period marked by his move to Berlin and the emergence of his distinctive figurative language. It captures the evolution of his signature characters, where polished, sculptural bodies meet disarmingly simple, ambiguous faces. Like the figure on its cover, the work balances strength and vulnerability, offering a glimpse into the process that shaped his visual identity.
