Aphrodite
Print Send To A Friend
According to legend, Aphrodite, Zeus and Dione daughter, came to light from the foam of the sea on an iridescent shell and was transported to the island of Cyprus by a breath of air. In her took shape beauty, the smile of mother earth, and love, the smile of life: nobody, neither mortal nor immortal, could withstand her grace. One day, an arrow-shot of her son Cupid made Aphrodite fall in love with the beautiful Adonis who, during a hunt, was wounded to death by a wild boar. The prayers of the goddess of love moved Zeus who, to console her, agreed that Adonis may transform into an anemone every year to spend four months with his loved one. Since then, the premature death of the young man symbolises the vegetation drying up under the summer sun. The Greek held in places of worship dedicated to Aphrodite rituals in honour of Adonis to celebrate the eternal comeback of life. In 1997 Montegrappa celebrated the myth of Aphrodite by editing the fountain pen that bears her name. The love that united Aphrodite and Adonis lives in the precious high-relief d?cor; the features which refine details deriving from a great manual skill: the different textures of the bark, leaves and skin; the representation of the treasures of the sea from which, according to legend, the most beautiful of all goddesses was born; the precious mother-of-pearl enclosures and the two pearls, one at the tip of the clip, the other at the feet of the feminine sculpture. Produced in black ebonite, Aphrodite is produced in 188 pieces in 18K gold and in 1,912 pieces in sterling silver.
