Amerigo Vespucci
Print Send To A Friend
At the end of the Fifties in the Atlantic Ocean, a modern aircraft carrier of the US Navy, crossed a superb sailing ship whose hull was painted with alternating horizontal black and white stripes, and imposing masts with billowed sails. While it came alongside with its crew on deck as if in parade-order, the Americans, using the "Q" code with a series of light flashes, asked "What ship are you?" "Ship Vespucci of the Italian Navy" was the answer. "You are the most beautiful ship in the world" responded those on the carrier with admiration. The 18K yellow gold version, produced in the same number as the ship's crew (267 pieces) represents the big ship under sails, in full navigation realised with hand application of precious enamels. The sterling silver version, manufactured in 1,931 pieces, as the year of the ship's launch, repeats the same image of the ship in low-relief engraving.
